Live Footage (w/Brian House) (1st Set)

Live Footage is the Brooklyn-based electronic duo of Topu Lyo (Electric Cello) and Mike Thies (Drums/Keys), who use live looping as a means of creating original electro-acoustic compositions. Their music has been described as a cross between Debussy & Squarepusher.

For this performance, they'll be collaborating with interactive visualist Brian House. Brian is an Artist, musician, and teacher exibiting works at the MOMA and the Muesum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, and teaching courses on Critical Urban Media Arts at Columbia. Joining Brian House will be Sunny Jang on visuals.

Alexandros Lambrovassilis, Chris Kuklis, Luke Damrosch, & Astrid Steiner (2nd Set)

Firstly, a little history lesson:

Olympic Airways, the national air carrier of Greece, was founded on April 6, 1957 by the Greek ship owner Aristotle Onassis. For Greece, the birth of Olympic Airways symbolized the country's passage from agricultural to industrial era and marked the nation's advancements in civil aviation. For the Greeks themselves, the company has been "their" airline, entwined with personal experiences and countless memories.

In 1975, Aristotle Onassis transferred full ownership of Olympic Airways to the Greek government, where it remained until now. In the midst of recent financial troubles, the company was sold to Greek-owned Marfin Investment Group in March of 2009. For the first time in its long history, Olympic has moved from the hands of the state (& its people) to private ownership. This is a sensitive subject for a nation of people who have always thought of Olympic as their own.

In September of 2008, photographer Alexandros Lambrovassilis was granted rare access to Greece's now-closed Elliniko Airport, the original home of Olympic Airways. His goal? To capture on film the wealth of memories & cultural history stored there, from Olympic's second Boeing 747 to the desk and Mercedes of Aristotle Onassis to the old terminals & hallways that were once filled with the life & motion of the Greek people.

Together with musicians Chris Kuklis (electricguitar+electronics) & Luke Damrosch (laptop), and video artist Astrid Steiner, Lambrovassilis brings the rare spaces, feelings, & ghosts of memory directly to Brooklyn, surrounding the audience with time, movement, history, sound, and imagery.

This project exists both as an artistic effort & as a vehicle to promote the urgent need for the establishment of a Museum Of Civil Aviation in Greece, providing a home to these unique & memory filled artifacts.
